Big Momma came into our rescue program on May 23, 2018. Big Momma came into our rescue program from the Woodward County Sheriff's Office as a cruelty case along with 8 other horses. We spent many hours on location in Woodward County trying to save a horse that was down upon arrival. Finding a veterinarian that would respond out in the field was extremely difficult. One Veterinarian stated that he could check on her the next morning, but I refused to leave her there. We finally found a veterinarian a little over an hour away that would come out and at least prep her for travel, while down, with fluids, etc. We had to call in another trailer, so that she could ride alone as we were prepared to load her whether she was standing or laying down. This sweet girl was not going to be left behind. She needed to see help arrived for her and her herd. Sadly, we lost that sweet mare shortly after arriving back home. Our veterinarian met us here at midnight and we did all we could to save her, but sadly, her fight was done. But she knew she was safe, and she nickered to her herd, where they responded back to her. At that moment, she left us. It breaks our hearts when we can't save one, but thankfully, her 7 remaining herd members made it out. Big Momma is a Beautiful, Bay, Thoroughbred, Mare. Big Momma is estimated to be 7 years of age upon arrival into our program. Big Momma is emaciated, body score of a 2 with rain rot and extremely long hooves. This poor girl was so weak. All of the horses went about 2 weeks with limited access to water or anything edible. Big Momma went down in the trailer on the way back to our facility. Thankfully, with the help of our veterinarian, we were able to get her up and out safely without further damage to her or the 2 horses she was with. This big, sweet girl has a long road of recovery ahead of her. We will update as she improves. Please consider making a donation towards Big Momma's Rehabilitation.

Big Momma was picked for our 10th Annual Blaze's Ride to the Rescue Trainer Challenge. She was chosen by Trainer Tyler Thurston. Team Big Momma did a great job at this year's 10th Annual Blaze's Ride to the Rescue Trainers Challenge. We are thrilled to announce that Trainer Tyler Thurston came in 6th place with Team Big Momma. Both did an amazing job, and we couldn't be prouder of this wonderful team.

Update May 2023 Big Momma is still seeking a forever, loving home to call her own. Big Momma is a super sweet girl and loves attention. We would recommend someone taking their time and starting her back under saddle, as she hasn't been routinely ridden since the challenge. Big Momma has some arthritis in her left hind leg/hip area from a previous injury. With some maintenance she can be pleasure/trail ridden. Big Momma has a lot of potential and will make someone a wonderful horse. She just needs a little bit of extra care to help her arthritis. Big Momma is now 12 years of age. She is a big girl. Big Momma has a current negative coggins, up to date on vaccinations, deworming, teeth floating and hoof maintenance. If you are interested in giving this sweet girl a forever, loving home, please submit an adoption application or call/text/email to schedule an appointment to come visit Big Momma.
